About Roger Parker

I was born in Durham, North Carolina on September 11,1943.

I came from a very modest, God fearing, Conservative family. My dad was a carpenter for Leggett Myers Tobacco Company and my mother worked most of her life with Belk's department store. I was one of five children.
( four boys and one girl )

When I was 14, I was baptized and joined the family of Grey Stone Baptist Church, in Durham and I'm still a member there. Now that I have no family remaining at Grey Stone, I plan on moving my membership to First Baptist Church of Mebane.
I have been working since I was very young. I started out with a morning news paper route and mowing lawns. ( For you younger folks, I used a push mower for one year until I saved enough money to buy a power mower. Then as soon as I was old enough to get a work permit (14 years), I went to work for The Colonial Stores food chain.

I attended the Durham city schools and graduated Durham High in 1962.
My parents couldn't help me financially to attend college, so after graduation, I went to work for Leggett Myers Tobacco Company as a seasonal worker on the Tobacco Market. I did this for two years and saved some money so I could pursue more education.

I'm proud to say, that I am a product of the North Carolina Community college system. I attended Durham Technical Community College in Finance in 1965 thru June 1966.

I accepted an entry level job with IBM in June of 1966 and eventually worked my way into General Accounting where I was able to use my Finance training. I worked for IBM over 30 years, during which time I was promoted many times and was a senior level planner when I retired in November 1996. The last fifteen years with IBM were spent in Management and Financial planning. I am currently employed as a non regular employee at IBM.

Prior to joining IBM, I enlisted in the North Carolina National Guard where I stayed for eight years and achieved the rank of Sergeant.
Roger Parker and Family
My wife, Phyllis and I live in Mebane. We have a wonderful blended family. Between the two of us we have four children and three wonderful grandchildren. My daughter, Dana and her husband, Mark live in Advance, N.C. with two beautiful children, 52 years old. Phyllis has two daughters, Greer, who lives in Mebane along with her husband Toby and a sweet eighteen year old daughter, Cheryl. Phyllis' other daughter also lives in Mebane. My son Kirk and his wife Holly live in Raleigh.
Phyllis and I moved to Mebane in 1995 and really love the people and the town.
I have been on the Mebane Planning Board for over nine years and have been Chairman of the Board for Three. I am Parker Family past Secretary of the Alamance County Republican Party.
I have met so many solid citizens who honestly care about Alamance county and this great state.

While it is true, I am an Republican, I'm Conservative first ! I learned responsibility and a strong work ethic from my parents.
I will take this into my job as your Representative.
Nothing means more to me than my family. I, like many Conservative Americans, am very disappointed in the way things are trending today. This is primarily why I'm running for the NC House. It's too late to give my children and grandchildren the same America I remember, but I intend to do everything in my power to help leave them the best State I can.

When elected, I will go to Raleigh and make a difference and strive to bring accountability and trust back to our State government.

May God Bless America and the State of North Carolina
